Upgrading Your SD Card on Mazda NB1 TomTom Nav

After 3 days of frustration and trying to figure out what I did wrong, I decided to make an easy step by step guide on how to upgrade your SD card for your TomTom Nav the correct way so you don’t have to go through the same pain I did.

  1. Take your original Mazda SD card and make of copy of all the files on your computer. Once copying is complete, take out your SD card.
  2. Download and install TomTom HOME2 (http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/services/tomtom-home/#tab:tab3)
  3. After installation is complete, insert your Mazda SD card.
  4. Set up an account with TomTom and register your device.
  5. Allow TomTom HOME2 to do its updates and back up your device.
  6. Once completed, eject your Mazda SD card and insert your new SDHC card that you picked.
  7. Go to My Computers and format your new SDHC card. Be sure to name it “TomTom”, make sure it’s format is FAT32, and deselect quick format.
  8. Once formatting is complete, you can copy and paste the original files from the Mazda SD card that you have saved on your computer to your new SD card.
  9. Take it to your vehicle and insert the card into the card reader.
  10. Start your ignition and press nav on your head unit.
  11. After initialization, it’ll tell you that it can’t read the map. THIS IS NORMAL. This process allowed the NB1 system to insert some hidden files onto the SD card.
  12. Turn off your ignition and take your SD card out.
  13. Insert your SD card to your computer.
  14. TomTom HOME will pop up again. This time, you have to click on Tools->Use Latest Map Guarantee.
  15. This will allow you to download the latest maps onto your computer and transfer it to your new SD card.
  16. Once you have installed the latest maps and did “Update your device”, you may eject your card from your computer.
  17. Take your SD card to your car and insert it back into the slot.
  18. Start your engine and press Nav
  19. Watch your TomTom unit be a lot quicker than before!

This is the exact steps I did and it worked perfectly. Every step is important, so if you skip one, it might not work. Hopefully this will help you out as well.
